The Dryden Native Friendship Centre is currently accepting applications for Urban Indigenous Healthy Living Program (UIHLP), Program Coordinator. The UIHLP coordinator is responsible for designing, coordinating, facilitating, monitoring, and evaluating healthy living programs based on the community’s needs and interests. The goal of this position is to increase urban Indigenous people participation in sport, physical fitness, physical recreation, and other health promotion programs which may promote healthy lifestyle behaviours.

Schedule:

Regular full-time hours. Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm, 35 hours per week. Some flexibility to meet program needs.

This position is a regular full-time employment opportunity and is eligible for group retirement, extended benefits, and paid time off.

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:

• Implement programming focusing on nutrition, physical fitness, sports, physical recreation, smoke free living, and youth leadership
• Plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate program initiatives to increase the health and well-being of Indigenous community members
• Maintain appropriate records and perform all reporting requirements
• Establish and maintain relationships with external organizations as it relates to the program
• Implement programming for smoking cessation, aid in quitting, and provide information on the health impacts of smoking
• Facilitate information sessions for various health related issues
• Incorporate traditional activities whenever possible
• Facilitate one-on-one and group sessions

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A university or college degree/diploma in Kinesiology, Outdoor Recreation, or other related fields. Training and experience (i.e.  Fitness Instructor Specialist Certification) or lived experience may be considered equivalent.
• Acceptable Criminal records check – Vulnerable Sector will be a condition of employment
• Driver’s license with acceptable driver’s abstract will be a condition of employment
• First Aid/CPR or willing to be certified.
• Experience in physical fitness training or be willing to be certified
• Excellent knowledge about healthy lifestyle behaviors, specifically nutrition, healthy weight, and the benefits of living smoke free
• 1 year experience in planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of programming
• Excellent computer skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Knowledge of the social realities that Indigenous youth, women, and seniors experience in urban settings
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Ability to speak Ojibwe/Oji-Cree is an asset
• Experience with maintaining and working within a budget is an asset
• Knowledge of Indigenous culture is an asset
• Experience in data collection and evaluation is an asset

Work Conditions & Remuneration

• Working in a shared office environment
• $22.00-$23.50 per hour
