A huge fine for New Gold and its operations at its Rainy River project site.
The Toronto-based company has been ordered to pay $100,000 for failing to comply with the conditions of an approval under the Lakes and Rivers Improvement Act.
New Gold gained approval in August 2015 to construct a network of dams and diversions with certain conditions.
In March 2016, water flowed over the incomplete Teeple Dam, causing the dam to erode, with sediment entering the Pinewood River downstream.
An investigation determined the company was aware of the incomplete status of the dam prior to the incident.
