An extensive cyber crime investigation in Thunder Bay has led to 12 people being arrested and they are facing a total of 172 charges.
City police began investigating the non-consensual sharing of intimate content in 2023 after learning that multiple women in Thunder Bay had been having their images shared through groups in online chat platforms.
The investigation has found 117 victims, including residents from three other countries and across Canada.
During the investigation, investigators used 18 search warrants, 15 general warrants, and 26 production orders, which resulted in the seizure of 600 items.
The accused in the investigation turned themselves in to the police and are expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
More information is expected to be released following the court appearances.
