Michael John Potts
December 20, 1953 – January 8, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we must announce the passing of Mike Potts, 71, of Ignace, Ontario, due to a tragic fall. He peacefully passed on January 8, 2025.
Michael Potts was born December 20, 1953, in Guelph, Ontario, to Frank and Craigie Potts. He attended elementary and high school in Guelph and graduated with his forest technician papers from Sault College.
He spent many years as a forest firefighter throughout the province, including Red Lake, Wawa, Blind River, and Dryden, before finishing his career in Ignace, Ontario. Mike moved to Ignace in 1986 and married his love, Cheryle, in 1987, welcoming their son Greg in 1989.
Mike enjoyed the outdoors, games of cribbage and bridge, as well as cooking for the family. He joined a badminton club in his later years and always took pride in his well-maintained vehicles. He was an avid movie watcher and loved dogs, particularly his Labrador Retrievers, with whom he could be seen going on long walks throughout the community.
Mike is survived by his wife, Cheryle, and his son, Greg (fiancée Danielle) of Truro, Nova Scotia. He also leaves behind his sisters, Sarah Elliott (Keith) of Big Bend, Ontario, and Edith Lawson of Wiarton, Ontario. His brother, Peter Potts (Kathleen) of Waterloo, Ontario, as well as his brothers-in-law, Darren Adis (Susan) of Port Colborne, Ontario, and Robert Adis of Saskatchewan. He is also survived by several nephews, nieces, and their families.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Craigie Potts, sister Jean and brother-in-law Bruce Lee, sister Maria Potts, and brother-in-law Gordon Lawson, as well as his in-laws, Murray and Carol Adis.
There will be no services as cremation has taken place. A family Celebration of Life will take place in the future.
