Salary Range: $61,394 – $82,463 per annum

Job Summary:
The Child Development Educator works alongside the other members of the Developmental Services to support healthy child development, provide early childhood screening and assessment, and build the capacity of community-based workers to support healthy child development.

The Child Development Educator is directly accountable to the Clinical Manager.

Qualifications:

• Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment).
• Ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects in the Sioux Lookout Zone is an asset.
• Education equivalent to High School graduation and completion of a diploma training program at a College or Technical School. Diploma in early childhood education, communicative disorders assistant, rehabilitation assistant, or other closely related field is an asset
• Experience with caregiver coaching to support early childhood
• Strong knowledge of child development from ages 0-6
• Experience in administering early childhood screening tools such as the ASQ, Rourke, Looksee, etc.
• A lifelong learner who is highly conscientious and committed to a high quality of evidence- based practice and ongoing professional
• Excellent oral and written communication
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with all members of the Developmental Services team, community-based staff, community members and children and
• Skilled in program development, research, report writing, and computer
• Experience and understanding of First Nations culture, history, the geographic realities, health priorities and social conditions within remote First Nations’
• Experience of having worked with a diverse range of stakeholders, internal and external to the organization to achieve successful outcomes through excellent relationship building
• Ability to develop and maintain respectful, cooperative working relationships with First Nations people, communities, service workers and health care providers
• Ability to work well independently and with team
• Ability to adhere to confidentiality requirements; to perform the physical demands of the job; demonstrate initiative; demonstrate excellent judgment and prioritizing
• Ability to take initiative, be adaptable, multitask, meet deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
• Must be willing to travel.
• Ability to perform the requirements of the position on a regular basis.

 

 

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Work with parents/caregivers to complete developmental screening for their child(ren).
• Support families to develop meaningful goals related to their child’s development based on their concerns and areas of need identified through observation and developmental screening
• Develop service plans to identify developmental goals, support strategies, and track
• Provide direct developmental intervention through coaching parents/caregivers/family members/ educators in the child’s natural environments (ie. home, early years setting, school, ).
• Provide subject matter expertise on early childhood development and screening to caregivers and community-based
• Develop health promotion materials and messaging about healthy child development and the importance of screening and supporting child development with the ACW Raising our children team.
• Work with the Developmental Services & ACW Raising our children team to develop and implement workshops and education materials for caregivers and community workers to support their knowledge and skills in supporting early childhood
• Execute training programs in community for caregivers and community workers to enhance their knowledge of early childhood development and strategies to support early childhood
• Provide ongoing training, mentorship and operational program support to community-based workers to promote healthy child development, and support communities in developing their own programs and approaches to promoting healthy child
• Provide presentations, workshops, radio shows, and activities in communities which promote and/ or teach about healthy child
• Identify and develop regional and/or community level partnerships in support of healthy child development.
• Provide support and guidance to communities to building programming, services, and teachings to promote strong family dynamics to support healthy parents raising healthy
• Represent SLFNHA and Developmental Services on relevant working groups and/or at relevant meetings.
• All other duties as assigned
