The Scotties Tournament of Heart is returning to northwestern Ontario next year.
It’s being hosted in Thunder Bay at Fort William Gardens.
Thunder Bay was previously awarded the opportunity to host the tournament in 2021, but due to COVID-19, the tournament was relocated to a bubble in Calgary.
To compensate for losing the 2021 tournament Thunder Bay was awarded the host role in 2022, but due to an uptick in COVID-19 numbers, the tournament had to be held without fans.
With restrictions gone, and fans returning, so too is the need for more volunteers.
“Local volunteers have registered in droves when we opened volunteering about a year ago, but we still need about 100 people,” said Curling Canada Event Manager, Marcy Hrechkosy. “The good thing about volunteering for a curling event is you don’t need to have any curling experience. You can be doing anything from helping with merchandise sales, or selling 50/50”
Volunteer registration will remain open until the end of November and you can get involved on the Curling Canada website.
Curling Canada is in Thunder Bay for a few days, conducting a site tour and accepting the city’s $400,000 hosting bid fee.
During the tour, they plan on setting up plans for merchandise locations, media, parking, and a shuttle system.
