The collapse of a CN rail bridge near Fort Frances could impact the Port of Thunder Bay.
It happened just east of Couchiching First Nation on Wednesday afternoon.
The lift bridge crosses over Rainy Lake and connects CN to the Port of Thunder Bay.
At this time the Port doesn’t know how much it will impact them.
“It certainly could, we are waiting for more information from CN at this time,” said CEO Chris Heikkinen. “It certainly looks like that bridge is going to need some work done to it.”
“A good portion of the product that is shipped out of our port and also products that are shipped in through the port transits on that line,” added Heikkinen. “We are just waiting to hear what the contingency plan is that CN is putting together.”
In an email to Acadia News, CN says repair work on the bridge has begun.
It adds that the bridge will remain closed until further notice.
