A proposal to develop several cottage lots in Machin on crown land owned by the Province of Ontario isn’t going anywhere fast.
Max Nagy is the town’s economic development officer and says the concept was first brought up in 2006.
“It’s a frustrating process…the people we deal with are nice people, but it’s just the system that seems to be holding everything up,” explains Nagy.
“You get to a certain point…you get everything done that needs to be done that is asked for, then a couple of other things seem to pop up.”
Nagy points out Machin started the Ely Development project years ago.
“This is one the municipality has been working on since 2006. It seems like it got to a point where the municipality was approved for about eight lots. We don’t have a timeline on when we can see the lots. We’re trying to remain optimistic, but yeah, it can be frustrating.”
Nagy says it also includes seven acres of land that could be used for the Vermilion Bay North Cemetery Expansion project.
It’s hoped an archeological assessment of the property can begin soon.
