The process the Town of Ignace used to continue to host exploration of the deep geological nuclear repository has been roundly criticized.
We the Nuclear Free North calls the process secretive, undemocratic and lacking scientific and technical rigour
It says instead of holding a referendum, as was done in South Bruce, a private consultant was used to conduct interviews and run an on-line poll.
The group goes onto say the decision to proceed was a questionable outcome from a largely unelected council in a community that has no authority and is not even in the same watershed as the proposed site.
It adds that at a minimum, it should be a regional decision, not made by a small, upstream council.
