Doreen Olson
October 19, 1935 – March 31, 2024
It is with loving hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of E. Doreen Olson at 88 years of age, on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, with her family at her side. Doreen was born on October 19, 1935, in Beausejour, Manitoba to Edward and Bertha Boss.
As the eighth of nine children, Doreen enjoyed helping on the farm and she took great pride in being an excellent student. When the family moved to Dryden, Ontario, she met a young man named Juel, who she later married during a blizzard in Kenora, Ontario, on December 22, 1951.
Doreen and Juel built a wonderful life together. They loved to laugh and enjoyed fishing, canoe and boating trips, hunting, traveling throughout North America, tending to their lawn, flowerbeds, and vegetable gardens, and especially spending time at the cabin they built at Cook Lake, North of Dryden. The cabin is still the center of many joyful celebrations and family gatherings today.
Doreen was a long-time member of the Dryden Full Gospel Church, a volunteer for The Gideons International since 1974, and she worked diligently with the Alzheimer’s Association until just a few years ago.
Doreen will be forever loved by her children Debbie (John) Sheppard, Cathy (Doug) Bullock and Lisa (Lorrie) Kerekes, eight grandchildren and their spouses, and 23 great-grandchildren who adore their “Nana”.
Doreen will also be sadly missed by her sisters Sarah Auren and Sheryn (Don) Gummer as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Doreen was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Juel (in 2008), newborn daughter Cindy (in 1953) and son Gary (in 2020).
Cremation has taken place.
