The Town of Ear Falls has passed a budget with a 1.9 percent increase in the mill rate.
That’s one of the lowest increases in the region.
Mayor Kevin Kahoot says they tried to keep any tax hike to a minimum.
“We tried to get it around the 2 percent mark knowing we do have a shrinking tax base at this time,” says Kahoot.
“With the cost of living and everything else around us, we thought it was fiscally responsible to keep the increase as low as possible.”
Kahoot adds they don’t need a lot of money for their capital budget this year.
“Not a whole lot. We did quite a bit of capital last year when we took over the water plant from Northern Waterworks. So, knowing that, we didn’t have a lot of capital we had to sink into things this year in terms of equipment or assets.”
Overall, Kahoot says their operating budget comes in at $2.1 million and their capital budget comes in around $200,000.
