New signs are starting to show up across the region commissioned by Grand Council Treaty #3.
In all, there are 16 signs, eight of which welcome travelers to the Treaty #3 Territory.
The other eight are part of an education and awareness campaign.
Treaty #3 says they are to acknowledge and respect the sacredness of their lands and waters.
Grand chief Frances Kavanaugh explains the importance of the signage.
“These signs not only mark a physical boundary, but embody an enduring sovereignty of the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3” shared Kavanaugh.
“They extend a welcome to all who enter the territory, while reminding them of their responsibility to abide by the inherent laws that are present within it.”
With the unveiling of the new signage, Grand Council Treaty #3 says it’s taking a step towards greater understanding by anyone who enters their territory.
