Sioux Lookout is looking for support from area communities as it seeks reinstatement within the northern allowance program.
It was removed in the 1990s because of its proximity to Dryden after it incorporated as a city.
Councillor Reece Van Breda made a presentation to both Kenora and Dryden city councils this week and says the program offers a tax rebate to residents living in certain areas of Canada.
“Bringing back the Northern Tax Allowance will make living, working and investing in Sioux Lookout easier for everybody and that’s what’s important. Giving us more breathing room,” Van Breda said during his deputation.
Van Breda is speaking with area councils in advance of a resolution coming for a vote at next months Kenora District Municipal Association meeting as well as the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association conference in April.
