New Energy Metals is moving quickly on an exploration of a tract of land, north of Atikokan, believed to contain lithium.
The company recently entered into an agreement to acquire the nearly 3,800 hectares near Sapawe.
It is now beginning early exploration that includes geological mapping, prospecting, and rock sampling.
Sampling conducted in the area along Highway 11 in 2003 suggested: “The discovery of columbite-tantalite group minerals and beryl by this survey gives strong indications that, with careful prospecting, further rare-element minerals may be discovered.”
“We are thrilled to initiate exploration activities at the Atikokan Lithium Property,” says Rishi Kwatra, Chief Executive Officer, in a statement. “We have engaged industry professionals with significant local knowledge to execute our Phase 1 exploration program.”
New Energy is one of several companies searching for the rare-element mineral around the Atikokan area.
Lithium has been a mineral of economic interest in northwestern Ontario.
While much attention has been on the Ring of Fire, several companis are in various stages of exploration for lithium across the region.
