Area artists and artisans will be on display this weekend in Sioux Narrows.
The Sioux Narrows Arts Council stages its annual Sioux Narrows Arts Festival on Saturday and Sunday.
Member Kathy Valentini says they have 50 artists taking part in the show and sale at the curling club.
There is also a children’s art exhibit with some demonstrations taking place as well.
“We also have a kid’s craft tent and art tent at the main art show they can participate in. There’s a children’s concert on Sunday at 1 p.m. That’s being put on by Tia McGrath who is a songwriter and a book writer, and she’s going to be doing a concert for the kids,” says Valentini.
There are two other concerts involving McGrath and Tommy Parham, both award-winning singer-songwriters.
One takes place at the Sportfishing Centre at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The second takes place at the Sioux Narrows Community Hall at 7 p.m.
All of the concerts are free to attend.
“We do accept donations at the door of the artist show and that’s what helps us organize it and run it for the next year. We have over 100 people from the community that are volunteering over the weekend to make it happen. And then the businesses all support us and provide us with venues and space to hold the festival downtown.”
Valentini says they will kick it off with an event at their art gallery with the attending artists tonight.
“We’re having a little gathering in our art gallery, and they’re going to be given an hour and a bunch of art supplies to create something magnificent.
What they’re going to do with those is they’re going to take them back to their booth for Saturday and Sunday and silent auction them off. So it’s kind of a fun way to meet new artists, get together and get ready for the festival that’s coming up.”
The art show and sale goes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
