A forest fire that continues to burn just north of Cat Lake First Nation has grown to over 9,200 hectares in size.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says Sioux Lookout Fire #7 has been remapped at 9,285 hectares and is not under control, with 12 fire crews and 4 helicopters fighting the blaze.
The MNRF notes the fire is burning away from the community and crews have made good progress on the southern section of the fire, closest to the community.
No evacuation orders have been issued at this point.
As it stands, there are six active forest fires in the region with 3 considered not under control. The region’s fire hazard is listed as low in the Kenora area to high in the Thunder Bay area.
