The Fort Frances Muskies boys’ hockey team is in a must-win situation at the all-Ontario high school hockey championships in St. Catherines.
The team beat Roland Michener from South Porcupine 5-2 but lost to the host St. Francis Phoenix 4-1 in the afternoon game.
Klyde Laplante scored the Muskies’ only goal in that game.
Grayson Burnell scored twice in the team’s opener.
Niko Ruppenstein, Noah McPherson and Callum McCormick added the other goals.
The Muskies need a win over Lambton Wednesday morning to advance to the quarterfinals.
At the all-Ontario high school girls’ hockey championship in Stratford, the Dryden Eagles are a point away from reaching the quarterfinal round.
The Eagles tied Napanee 3-3 and then blanked the host Saint Michael Mustangs 1-0.
A tie or a win on Wednesday against Lambton will send them into the quarterfinals.
Still on the ice, but of a different kind, the all-Ontario high school curling championships get underway in North Bay today.
The Fort Frances Muskies represent the NWOSSA with a boys’ team skipped by Jackson Marchant.
Their first game is this morning against Laurel Heights Secondary School from Waterloo.
St. Patrick’s High School in Thunder Bay is the NWOSSA representative in the girls’ championship.
