The Ontario government and Northern Development Minister Greg Rickford have announced a $180,000 investment for recreation upgrades in Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls.
“Our government is improving access to community resources for the many residents who have water-only access to their homes,” explains Rickford.
“These upgrades will keep this important infrastructure safe and functional and support the vibrant tourism industry in Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls.”
The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation has committed the funds to upgrade the Nestor Falls Government Docks and to build a new pavilion to support tourism, economic development and to improve the quality of life for local residents.
“With tourism being our primary industry, the Township of Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls has faced considerable challenges over the past two years,” explains Mayor Gale Black.
“With support from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, we have been making significant community enhancements like the Nestor Falls Docks to ensure that we are well positioned to meet the needs of our existing and future residents and grow our tourism economy,” adds Mayor Black.
The township says the funding will be used to re-deck the existing docks and strengthen its crib system, and the roofed pavilion is expected to be located nearby.
