James Hooton scored three times to pace the Dryden GM Ice Dogs to a 9-3 win over the visiting Fort Frances Lakers at the Dryden Memorial Arena on Saturday night.
The Ice Dogs dominated from start to finish, earning a 3-0 lead after the first period and 7-1 after two.
Ryland Maier, with his tenth goal of the season, Hooton (17) and Max Roby (14) scored goals in the first.
Landen Stromme (18th) and Bryce Benfield (14) made it 5-0 before the Lakers got on the board.
Roby and Brent Pollard (1) rounded out the second period scoring.
Hooton notched his hat trick with a pair of goals in the third period.
Pollard, Roby and Dryden netminder Zac McDonald, who stopped 33 of 36 shots faced for the win, were named the game’s three stars.
With the win, the GM Ice Dogs moved to within six points of the league-leading Kam River Fighting Walleye, who fell 5-3 to Wisconsin.
