William “Bill” Lundstrom
July 26, 1957 – December 27, 2022
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Lundstrom, also known to many as “Lumpy”.
Bill was born July 26, 1957 in Dryden, ON. Being the youngest of six, he was known to be a little brat by his brother, was lovingly teased by his sisters, yet very spoiled and adored. As a young boy he enjoyed spending time with his dad in the garage, working on cars, motors and anything else he could get his inquiring mind and hands on. This love of working with his dad led him to becoming a Licenced Mechanic in the Woodlands Garage and then a Millwright in the Dryden Mill, working a total of 39 years. For 23 years he was a proud and dedicated Fire Fighter with the Barclay Fire Department, later Dryden Fire Hall 2.
On March 31, 1979 he married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Liz) Marion. In 1981 they welcomed their first daughter, Blaire and in 1982, Trisha completed the family. The Lundstrom’s were often seen at the ball diamonds, the curling rink, GLAA and Barclay Fire Fighters Association’s events. Being a loving and hands on dad, he coached the girls from T-Ball to the ladies league, attending piano recitals, watching school sports and being a chaperone for both of their grade 8 Toronto trips. His family was the centre of his universe and he took pride in supporting them in every way possible. He was so proud to walk Blaire down the aisle and welcome Troy, Molly, Hanna and Jacob to the family.
He enjoyed fishing and camping – from tenting on the Island to Glamping with full hook ups. He also enjoyed playing slo-pitch, cheering for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Green Bay Packers, following the NHL and sports in general. Countless hours were spent sharing meals, laughter, playing cards and visiting with family and friends.
In 2014, Bill retired and within a few years he and Liz became Snowbirds, wintering at Araby Acres Park in Yuma, AZ. He loved his time in the pool, meeting new friends, and enjoying that warm Arizona Sun. Life was great. Nov. 15, 2022, while in Yuma, cancer was found in his pancreas & liver and they returned home. Bill’s incredible strength was evident as he persevered through a lot of pain while still feeling blessed to spend his final 6 weeks with family and friends, reminiscing and sharing lots of memories, laughter and love.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Liz; daughters Blaire & Troy, and Trisha. Grandchildren Molly, Hanna & Jacob Paterson. Brother Doug Lundstrom and Sisters Bev Mallery, Claire & Joe Aguiar, Shirley Lundstrom and Joan & John Turner. Brother-in-laws Dave & Deana Marion, Doug & Fran Marion, Jeff & Luci Marion and Sister-in-laws Cecille Boughner, Yvonne & Wayne Kerr, Mollie & Robert Kamm and Carol & Bob Gardam. Numerous nieces and nephews will miss their fun loving and witty Uncle Bill.
Predeceased by his parents Clarence & Olive Lundstrom, parents-in-law Joe & Myrna Marion; Sister & Brother-in-laws Joan Lundstrom, John Mallery and Tom Boughner; and nephews Greg Lundstrom and Dylan Hyatt.
Funeral service will be held Jan. 2, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Church Dryden at 11:00am.
For those who cannot attend, and would like to join us virtually, please contact Liz, Blaire or Trisha for information.
In lieu of flowers and because Bill was a lifelong migraine sufferer, donations in his memory can be made to migrainecanada.org or to a charity of your choice.
Rest in peace Dad. Thank you for always taking care of us and we were grateful that we could take care of you in your final weeks. Although heartbroken to lose him we know we can move on without him because of the strength and love he showed us over the years. ~ Liz, Blaire & Trisha.
