An attack on a Kenora business owner and her store has prompted calls for change.
The altercation last Friday night at Island Girl was caught on tape and viewed thousands of times on Facebook Live.
It showed a man in the store attacking the owner.
Michelle Livingston eventually managed to subdue the individual and she went on social media to say the man attacked her and destroyed her store.
Livingston stated, “I just want people to know that this is what Kenora has been. This is not the way I wanted to spend my Christmas. Things have to change!”
She added, “This has to change Kenora. This is every day. I have to deal with people breaking into my store. Drug addicts shooting up. Everything else. This is not right. If you want Island Girl to stay around, if you want businesses in Kenora, than we have to put a stop to this.”
Store items were seen scattered across the store, store shelves down, and the alleged attacker on the ground trying to respond to the Facebook Live posting by Livingston.
Police did arrive but not official statement has been released at this time.
Local business owners are reporting increased cases of harassment and attacks including a recent one at Spirit Oak Tea Company.
A Facebook posting indicates that four men entered the store Tuesday and harassed staff.
Fortunately in both cases no one was seriously injured.
The recent attacks has prompted an Emergency City Council meeting.
Members will talk about downtown safety concerns starting at 11 o’clock Thursday morning.
Though we did plan on being open between Christmas and New Year's an incident at the shop today has lead us to close…
