The Northwestern Health Unit urges following virus control measures over the holiday period.
“We continue to see moderate to high rates of viral respiratory illness throughout our region caused by several viruses, including influenza, COVID-19 and RSV,” Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon.
She notes they have seen some improvements since the levels seen in November, but respiratory illnesses continue to have a notable impact on emergency room departments, hospitalizations, and pediatric ICUs.
Dr. Young Hoon asks that you stay home when first sick with a fever or body aches and to get your flu and COVID booster shot.
She says large gatherings during the holiday break with individuals attending who are unwell can pose a significant risk, especially among elderly people and children under the age of 5.
