A regional mayor believes some northern communities are getting closer to a resolution surrounding policing costs.
The coalition consisting of Sioux Lookout, Pickle Lake and Kenora has been trying to work with the province to get costs in line with other communities in Ontario.
Kenora’s Andrew Poirier admits its a complex issue.
Poirier says they are still paying substantially more than other municipalities in in the province.
“We’re making connections and headway with the Solicitor General’s office. There’s discussions going on. We’re not at a point where we would like to be right now but we believe we are moving forward and we continue to strategize as we move forward.”
Poirier says they continue to meet weekly with representatives from the two partnering communities in their bid to lower policing costs.
