Thunder Bay District Humane Society opened up their low cost spay neuter clinic in January of 2019 now a little less than three years later they have hit a milestone…10 thousand alterations, as they are called, have been performed.
Executive Director Shawna Beaulieu says the team works their magic as fast as they can.
“On average we do 18 surgeries a day, but Dr. Roberts has done as many as 35 in one day.”
The 10 thousandth surgery was a spay on 3 month old Rournanite.
Beaulieu adds while most surgeries are done for the general public there are others who also seek the services.
“We also support a lot of the rescue groups, local rescue groups that access our services, and we do spay and neuter all of our animals. We only adopt out animals that are spayed and neutered of course.”
One of the biggest challenges Beaulieu says for the clinic is how fast appointments book up. Appointments open up at 5 p.m. every Monday. However the clinic is taking a little bit of a break until the new year.
