If there is a strike on Friday by education workers represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees, the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board says it will be keeping its schools open.
The public board says non-union staff may be used in the schools.
However, if the strike lasts longer than one day, the board warns some school closures may be necessary.
In a statement from Director of Education Christy Radbourne, she says, “As a Board, we respect our CUPE staff and greatly value the work they do in our schools. Student safety remains our top priority, and we will continue to monitor the situation and its impact.”
There is no word yet on plans for the Northwest Catholic District School Board.
There are no CUPE members at St. John’s Catholic School in Red Lake and won’t be impacted by potential job action.
