IMPORTANT NOTICE: High School Football game at Dryden High School has been cancelled this afternoon. Local officials say the West Kildonan bus broke down outside of Kenora and they are being told to head back to Winnipeg by their school admin.
Background:
There will plenty of excitement at Harry McMaster Field this afternoon (Friday).
The Dryden Eagles (5-2) host a rare playoff game with West Kildonan (4-3) coming to town.
Defensive Back Coach Braydon Hansson stresses this is just a testament to the teams work ethic and their skill level throughout the entire eight weeks.
Hansson notes the Wolverines will likely be looking for revenge after a 20-0 loss to the Eagles in regular season play.
He says the key is shutting that out before it can even start.
“They have some big bodies on that team and if you notice in the second half when we played them we weren’t able to really put points on the board in the second half, we came out and put 20 points up, so I think for this week the goal is to play the full 60 minutes not just 30 minutes and come out on top with a convincing win.”
As for playing in front of the home town crowd for a sixth time this season and it being a Quarter-Final game, Hansson says “It’s huge. Playoff game at home, especially it being a team from Northwestern Ontario, we don’t always get to do something like that. We’re honoured and we hope that everyone comes out and watches and supports and we hope to put on a good show and make the town proud.”
Kick-off is 1:00 pm
Meantime, the Beaver Brae Broncos advanced to the Semi-Final with a 21-10 victory over River East Thursday.
