A Northwestern Ontario Indigenous community finally has clean drinking water.
A long-term boil water advisory that’s been in place since 2019 in Sachigo Lake First Nation has been lifted.
Upgrades to the water treatment system have been completed and the wastewater lagoon has been expanded.
In a Facebook post, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says they’ve now lifted 136 long-term drinking water advisories since 2015.
He adds 31 long-term advisories remain across the country, a majority in our region, and there is a project team and action plan in place to resolve each one of them.
Trudeau says their commitment to ending the notices is unwavering and the government will keep working until every person living on reserve has access to clean drinking water.
