The Nuclear Waste Management Organization is seeking public input on its conceptual drawings of a proposed Centre of Expertise in Ignace.
The facility would highlight the proposed work of the agency and its plans for an deep underground repository in the area.
Officials note the Centre will bring new, high-value jobs to the region including scientists and experts.
They describe it as a $20 million modern architectural gem that would be a tourist destination on the Trans-Canada Highway.
The NWMO wants to ensure the Centre meets the needs of the region and is turning to local residents for feedback, especially from the host communities of Ignace and Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation.
Vice-President of Site Selection Lise Morton says, “The Centre of Expertise will be an important landmark for local residents and visitors, and we want to make sure it reflects the unique character of the communities. By hearing the aspirations of local residents we will learn what they envision for their community and can reflect that in the design.”
Input will be accepted until October 31 and for more information visit the online survey
Morton says current drawings are based on continuing conversations with the communities about the design and use of the Centre.
