Ice Dogs first year goalie Zac MacDonald was sensational in his SIJHL debut, however Eric Vanska was even better as the Kam River Fighting Walleye outlasted Dryden GM 2-1 Saturday night.
Vanska was especially sharp in the third period when the Ice Dogs poured it on in an attempt to tie the game.
Landon Stromme scored for the second straight night for Dryden GM.
After a pair of opening weekend losses, the team now prepares for another home game at the Memorial Arena Friday, September 30 against Wisconsin.
The surprising Lumberjacks are 2-0 following a sweep of the defending champion Red Lake Miners.
Wisconsin defeated the Miners 4-2 Saturday.
Aiden Corbett and Jacob Lamoureaux scored the Red Lake goals.
Jaxon Taupert was handed the loss in net.
Red Lake now looks at rebounding for its home opener September 30 against Fort Frances.
The Lakers had a tough start to a new season last night as former Ice Dogs Coach Paul McLean lost in his team’s debut dropping an 8-1 decision to visiting Thunder Bay.
