The wait is over as Junior Hockey is back in Dryden.
The Superior International Junior Hockey League opens tonight (Friday) with the GM Ice Dogs hosting the Kam River Fighting Walleye for a two game series.
Assistant Coach Jake Gushue offers a preview.
“We’ve got a big fast team. We’re built on speed this year. All the boys are very hard working. They’ve all bought in to what we’re trying to accomplish here in Dryden and I think the fans should be excited. There in for a good game.”
Gushue adds, “We want to set the tone early here for the season. Every game to us matters. We’re not looking to taking a game off at all this year. We want to treat every game like its a playoff game. We’re looking to get the job done every single night.”
Ice Dogs President Mike Sveinson says, “We want to be more disciplined, hard working hockey team and like they all say, every time we talk to anybody from the team, we want to bring Bill (Bill Salonen Cup) home. We’re hoping to see a good turnout because everyone in this league knows that when that arena is rocking it’s the most difficult road game in the league. So we need that every night starting from opening night.”
Sveinson adds the following comment below:
Game time is 7:30 at the Memorial Arena and tickets are available at the door.
Meantime, the Red Lake Miners begin defence of their SIJHL title as they head south of the border to take on the Wisconsin Lumberjacks.
The marks the regular season debut of Head Coach Kevin Walker.
He replaces Geoff Walker who left the team to coach in Europe.
Puck-drop is 7:05.
