Weekly column from Kenora MP Eric Melillo:
I was back in Ottawa this week with my colleagues to pay our respects to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
Fall Session Priorities
The House of Commons is officially in session for the fall, and I’m excited to be in Ottawa advocating for our region.
This fall, my colleagues and I will continue pushing for the government to take serious action to combat Canada’s cost-of-living crisis. With inflation at 7.6%, many Canadians are struggling to get by, and it’s time the government provides real relief rather than empty promises.
My other priorities this fall will include pushing for the ArriveCAN app to be immediately scrapped, voting against any proposed new taxes on Canadians, and increasing infrastructure funds for northwestern Ontario.
Canada Blood Services
Earlier this month, I was able to stop in Winnipeg to make a blood donation. While there has been a lack of Canada Blood Services clinics within the region, I am hopeful that they will resume blood donation clinics within the region as soon as possible.
Canada’s blood supply is low, and donors are needed. If you are in the city and are able to donate, please consider making an appointment.
New Conservative Leader
This past week, the new leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and Official Opposition Pierre Poilievre was elected. I am excited to work with my colleagues on this team to hold the government accountable.
