Some relief for air passengers as new refund requirements for commercial flight delays and cancellations come in effect across Canada today.
The new requirements apply to all flights from and within Canada, including connecting flights.
If a cancelled or delayed flight by three hours or more happens it’s mandatory for airlines to either rebook the passenger within 48 hours or to refund them if they can’t rebook them in that timeline.
The rule stands even if those delays or cancellations are out of the control of the airlines.
For large airlines, this could mean having to rebook the passenger on the next available flight of any airline, including competitors.
The Canadian Transportation Agency has been dealing with a backlog of passenger complaints.
The CTA has received more than 13,000 air travel complaints between April and August of this year.
