Another round of funding is expected from the provincial government to expand natural gas services across Ontario.
A third rollout is committed to the provincial budget.
The first two resulted in the province doling out $360 million to expand services in 59 communities.
“Phase two was a huge success. We had 28 projects impacting 43 different communities across Ontario in all parts, from east to west and south to north,” says Smith.
Smith says the interest was enough for government to implement a third phase.
Energy Minister Todd Smith says once the budget is passed, they’ll consult with municipal leaders on the rollout.
“As we develop phase three of the program, we’ll be working with communities and consulting with them to make sure that we’re getting natural gas to as many places as possible.”
Budget approval is expected in the next couple of weeks.
“Natural gas is reliable. It’s more affordable than propane and less emitting than propane and other home heating fuels. So it’s a win for the economy, it’s a win for local economies, and it’s a win for homeowners and farmers as well.”
