The look of the All Nations Hospital project in Kenora is starting to come together.
Phase 2A has been submitted to the Ministry of Health for approval.
Cheryl O’Flaherty is Vice President and Project Lead at Lake of the Woods District Hospital and says the new hospital will have 81 beds and will be located on a new site.
“We would really like to build on a new site because we’re very space challenged on this land that we sit on right now and it’s very difficult to build while operating,” explain O’Flaherty.
“So our best option is to build on a new site. It will be less costly and take less time to build.”
The hospital would include 24 beds for mental health, up from 17 currently and the emergency department would also be expanded along with the surgical unit.
O’Flaherty says they’ve used the services of a consultant and taken all the input they’re received to create a new health care facility the will be effective for years to come.
“Planning for the future and what will the needs be of our population in the years ahead. So we really want to make sure that while we’re building a hospital that will open in the next seven to ten years, that we’re also going to meet the needs of the population 30 years into the future.”
O’Flaherty estimates the new hospital should be ready to move into by 2028/2029.
The Phase 2B of the planning expected to completed by this year.
