Edna Emily Calvert (Larson)
October 17, 1930 – August 20, 2022
Edna left us to be with her Lord on August 20, 2022 with her family by her side. Edna was born in Sutherland Township, Arbor Vitae, Ontario on October 17, 1930 to Isador and Annie (Halverson) Larson. Being one of 10 children, her family moved around the area where the work was and settled down in Eagle River in 1943 where she lived most of her life. In 2015, she moved to Minnitaki, Ontario, to live out the rest of her years.
As a young lady, Edna worked in various tourist camps and in 1961 found her career job at the Dryden Tree Nursery where she made many lifelong friends. She remained there until her retirement in 1995.
Edna’s passion was her family. Her love could be found in the many family dinners and baking that she did for her children and grandchildren. The cabin was her “happy place” and she spent as much time as she could there gardening, cooking, landscaping, making crabapple juice from the trees and pickled green beans from the garden along with rhubarb cake. You never left the cabin or the house without some kind of goodies. She loved to knit, crochet and sew and made sure that the skill was passed down to future generations. Edna enjoyed going to church and when she was no longer able, the church came to her and she was ever grateful for the fellowship that accompanied those visits.
On June 30, 1950, Edna married Graham Calvert and they began their family in Eagle River. Edna will be dearly missed by her 4 children, Sharon (Barry) Weberg of Eagle River, Jack (Pat) Calvert of Eagle River, Jim(Jeanne)Calvert of Eagle River and Joyce Gardnerv(Stan Blanchard) of Minnitaki. Edna is also survived by 9 grandchildren Kevin (Sheri)Calvert of Eagle River, Todd (Kathy) Weberg of Eagle River, Nicole (Ray) Koyanagi of London, Ontario, Peter(Ann)Calvert of Dryden, Peggy (Jason) Marion of Dryden, Jacob (Marcie) Calvert of Sault St.Marie, Maegan (Brenden) Church of Dryden and Tori Gardner (Jesse) of Minnitaki. Also surviving are 20 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sisters Helen Ming of Thunder Bay and Judy Coates of Dryden and brother, Jerry (Joanne) Larson of Thunder Bay, sister-in-law Audrey Larson of Lac Lu and Gladys Hickey of St.Norbert, Manitoba, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Edna was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Graham in 2017 and grandson Kevin Weberg in 2010. She is also predeceased by her parents, 3 sisters, 3 brothers, 9 brothers-in-law and 3 sisters-in-law.
The family would like to send a huge thank you to the Vermilion Bay Lions Club, Community Paramedic staff, Paramed staff, North West Home Care staff and the Dryden Native Friendship Centre for their kindness and support so that Edna could stay at home and be with family as she began her new journey.
Funeral service will be held at the Dryden Community Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Mardi Plomp officiating. Please join the family at the Eagle River Recreation Centre for lunch and fellowship following the service.
