The first phase of the development of a hydro line in northwestern Ontario is now complete.
Wataynikaneyap Power says the 300 kilometre line between Dinorwic and Pickle Lake has been energized.
This is the first section of an 1,800 kilometre project to connect 17 remote first nations to the power grid.
Watay Power says the 230 kilovolt line is part of the $1.8 billion project.
The substation in Dinorwic connects to the provincial power grid, while there is also another substation in Pickle Lake.
An official ceremony to recognize the completion of phase one will take place in September.
