Blue-green algae has been confirmed in Wabigoon Lake.
The bloom tested positive in the Bonny Bay area and results show toxins exceed the Ontario Drinking Water Standard.
Concentrations may now be higher or lower, depending on how the bloom has evolved, and health officials warn it can move and may not be localized to a single location on the lake.
A second suspected bloom has now been reported in the Larson Bay area of the lake and the public is asked to treat it as blue-green algae.
Additional blooms reported in Wabigoon Lake in 2022 will not be announced but you can find a listing at Reported Blue-Green Algae Blooms
It’s important to avoid drinking the water, swimming in it, and using it for bathing or other household purposes.
It is recommended to wait at least two weeks after the bloom has disappeared before resuming the normal use of late waters.
