The NDP vows to address the doctor shortage in Northern Ontario.
If the party forms government, they’ll hire 300 doctors including 100 specialists and 40 mental health practitioners.
Campaigning in Fort Frances Wednesday, JoAnne Formanek Gustafson, the NDP candidate in Kenora-Rainy River, and says more physicians and health care services are needed here.
“We’re the central hub here for probably about 25 thousand people at this end of the riding and from here it’s 350 kilometers to the next major hospital in Thunder Bay,” explains Formanek Gustafson.
“You know, 250 (kilometers) to Kenora and Kenora is no better off.”
She adds that health care is one of the main issues for the party in this election.
“The NDP is committed to providing funding to take care of this…to make sure our communities can provide the health care that people need here.”
The NDP’s plan also includes building new Community Health Centers.
