Richard Jonasson is excited about the provincial election campaign as he believes he provides a true voice for voters.
The long-time Dryden resident is representing Consensus Ontario in Kenora-Rainy River.
Jonasson believes their message will resonate with others.
“We represent the people. We are on the local level of governing. I think it’s so good that we can finally have our issues heard because it seems anywhere up north our issues aren’t being addressed.”
Jonasson adds, “So many issues from housing to everything that’s not being addressed. We’re so far away, it seems like we’re just not heard. (Under Consensus Ontario) Our issues are addressed as they come up and as the people need them, not every four years on election day.”
Consensus Ontario was formed in 2016 to remove all parties from politics in the province and replace it with independent, elected representatives who answer their constituents.
Jonasson says that vision immediately caught his attention.
“It really attracted me because each constituency area will be handled for what they want done. It’s not a party deciding what they are doing. It’s all done locally. A local level of governing and decision making on what we want done here.”
