The Green candidate for Kenora-Rainy River suggests it was an easy decision to join the party in a bid to help them earn more seats at Queen’s Park.
Catherine Kiewning says the parties three-point priority plan aligns perfectly with her beliefs and one is climate change.
She says just look at last year and the record breaking fire season and this years record breaking rain.
“With the effects of a warming climate. It’s going to make events like this more frequent and more intense. Which is going to cost citizens way more money for repairs continuously having to happen.”
The second major issue is mental health care as Kiewning stresses existing programs aren’t easily accessible to citizens.
“Whether it is because there are not enough professionals to fill the needs of clients or cost is a hindrance, there’s no coverage for that. But, the GPO wants to include mental health care under O-HIP.”
The third is affordability and access to stable housing.
Kiewning says, “Buying a home is more challenging than ever right now in northwestern Ontario. So, the GPO wants to build a housing supply. Which means more homes for those who need them and most importantly we want to ensure that they are affordable and safe. Those who are under-housed or homeless need safe and reliable shelter first before anything else.”
