Three key platforms for the NDP candidate in Kenora-Rainy River.
JoAnne Formanek Gustafson says she will focus on her parties plan on housing, health care and affordability when she talks to voters.
The Fort Frances educator says, “costs are just through the roof here, not that it’s a surprise to anybody to hear that, so housing and homes is a big issue for us, affordable places that people can afford to rent for or afford to buy a home.”
She also comments on health care below:
Formanek Gustafson believes voters are looking for change.
“And they are looking to the NDP for that. They see the plan we have and it is being one focused on fixing the issues that have been caused over the last 25 years with the Liberals and with the Conservatives.”
Formanek Gustafson says she intends to put a lot of miles on to ensure her party’s message gets out across the riding.

She is running against Kelvin Boucher-Chicago from the New Blue Party, Catherine Kiewning from the Green Party, Richard Jonasson of Consensus Ontario, and incumbent Conservative Greg Rickford.
The Liberals still have no candidate in place.
Bio
* JoAnne has worked in a variety of educational roles including educational assistant, college instructor, and currently works as an elementary school educator.
* JoAnne was Vice President, ETFO Rainy River Occasional Teacher Local (2016 – 2020).
* JoAnne is an anti-racism advocate who encourages people to adopt practices that support and empower people who experience oppression.
* JoAnne volunteered with the Fort Frances Badminton Club; Fort Frances Youth Soccer (referee, volunteer coach); Cyclone Swim Club, Chem-Free Grad; led workshops about Ojibwe language at the Fort Frances Public Library & Technology Centre (2016); created an “Orange Shirt Day” event at Fort Frances Public Library & Technology Centre (2017), volunteered with Borderland Pride in 2019 / 2020.
* JoAnne is a member of Couchiching First Nation, the community where her mother’s family comes from.
* JoAnne grew up in Fort Frances and raised her family in the town.
