The federal government is under fire from the opposition for reigning in housing prices across Canada.
The Conservatives are taking the Liberals to task.
However, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says they have taken a three pronged approach to improve the situation.
“To help young Canadians save for a down payment on a first home with a historic tax-free savings account to help with the purchase of a first home. Second we are going to crack down on speculation by bringing in a ban on foreign buyers and crack down on unfair practices like blind bidding.”
Trudeau also pledges to increase the housing supply by working with municipalities and historic investments.
Housing prices have doubled under the Liberals and many young Canadians are giving up on their dream of home ownership.

Meantime, the Melillo is hinting on who he will be supporting in the Conservative party leadership race.
He says he’s very motivated and very excited about Scott Aitchison.
Melillo admits the representative of Parry Sound-Muskoka isn’t a household name, but he passionately talks about some of the big issues around housing, inflation and affordability.
Aitchison is one of six in the running.
Melillo says the Conservative Party has set a September date for the leadership vote but they are still deciding if there will be an actual convention.
Here is the latest column from the Kenora MP:
Dear Constituents,
This week we recognized International Firefighters Day, I’d like to thank all the firefighters in our region who are instrumental in keeping our communities safe. Your hard work, selflessness and dedication does not go unnoticed and is much appreciated.
Advocating for Real Solutions to the Housing Crisis
This week I rose in the House of Commons to question the Prime Minister on his failed housing policies. Under the Liberal government housing prices have doubled and the government’s inaction is causing many Canadians to give up on their dream of owning a home.
Current housing policies are not reducing prices or increasing the supply of homes. The government must do more to incentivize development and work to solve the housing crisis.
Missing, and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls: Action Plan
May 5th marked the annual Red Dress day, a time to raise awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. I was honoured to speak this week about the impacts the crisis has in the Kenora riding. I also advocated for a quicker implementation of the MMIWG National Action Plan-which was released nearly a year ago.
Passport Backlog
My office has heard from many constituents about the absolutely unacceptable wait-times people are experiencing when trying to obtain or renew their passport. The increased demand for passports was foreseeable, with borders reopening and this year marking the tenth anniversary of the ten-year passport, the government should have been more prepared for this predictable influx in applications. Alongside my Conservative colleagues I sent a letter to the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship requesting they provide an immediate timeline to ending the backlog of passport applications.
Strengthening Mental Health Supports
The past two years have been filled with lockdowns, restrictions, isolation and uncertainty. All of which have put the mental health of Canadians to the test. For many, it has been an extremely difficult two years. Rates of anxiety, and depression have hit all-time highs, and an increasing number of Canadians have admitted to experiencing suicidal thoughts.
April 25th marked 500 days since the Conservative motion calling on the government to implement a three digit suicide hotline (9-8-8) passed unanimously in the House of Commons. However, over the past 500 days the government has continuously delayed the implementation of this three digit line.
To this day, the status of 9-8-8 is still unknown.
My colleagues and I will continue advocating for the swift implementation of 9-8-8. In times of crisis, I believe help should only be three digits away.
Ending the Blood Ban
Recently, Health Canada approved the lifting of the discriminatory blood donation ban for gay and bisexual men. Canadian Blood Services expects the new policy will take effect prior to September 30th 2022. I am extremely proud of my colleague MP Eric Duncan, from Southern Ontario for his hard-work and dedication to ensuring Canada’s blood donation services are safe and inclusive for all.
