Sioux Lookout and Pickle Lake are reaffirming their commitment in reducing policing costs.
The two joined Kenora this week to form a Coalition in a bid to convince the province to take action.
Officials says the current formula has resulted in per property costs of $950 in Pickle Lake and $934 in Sioux Lookout.
The median cost for OPP services in Ontario is $300 per property.
While the two communities receive some discounts, officials note there is no guarantee that they will be extended.
Sioux Lookout Mayor Doug Lawrance says the province’s OPP cost-formula clearly hasn’t worked for hub-based municipalities.
He calls it one of the most important problems they face, stressing it is easy to solve with cooperation from the government.
Pickle Lake Mayor Dwight Monck says if the Ontario government fails to address the situation, serious action will need to be taken.
He says the ability of their property owners to pay higher taxes has reached the breaking point.
Monck adds if policing costs continue to rise, they may have to reduce other services to residents, businesses, and organizations.
