The Rat Portage First Nation is receiving over $500,000 as it works to locate unmarked graves at the St. Mary’s Residential School.
The money has been ear-marked for mental health and trauma supports for the community.
Indigenous Services Canada is also providing $70,000 to help out.
The Ontario government says this funding is separate from the operational funding being provided to Rat Portage and other communities which are leading burial investigations across the province.
The money will help in developing community-wide and individual healing plans, as well as mental health supports for children and youth.
