The Ford government is making a $5 million investment to support seniors across the province.
Dryden and Pickle Lake are two local communities benefiting.
The Dryden Go-Getters is getting $14,851 for an important initiative.
The project will provide nutritional sessions with a dietitian for seniors in the Dryden area and surrounding First Nations where they will prepare food to take home while learning about nutrition.
In Pickle Lake, more than 24 thousand dollars ($24,175) will help form a Culture and Heritage Committee that will meet monthly with Indigenous, Metis and non-Indigenous seniors in the area to share stories, photos and the oral history of their community.
The program is being run by the municipality.
Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford says, “I’m thrilled that seniors across the riding of Kenora-Rainy River will benefit and enjoy new activities and programs through the Seniors Community Grant Program. Our government is investing over $68,000 in this region because we know that investing in local organizations is the best way to keep seniors healthy and active.”
The province has announced its increasing its Seniors Community Grant investment this year to $6 million.
Community organizations can apply for the funding starting on March 1.
