Playing with only 14 players and facing the top team in the Superior International Junior Hockey League didn’t phase the Dryden GM Ice Dogs Wednesday.
The Ice Dogs played with plenty of heart and emotion and continued to attack but fell short falling to the Kam River Fighting Walleye 4-3.
The team had a short bench with several suspensions from last weekend, as well the absence of all three coaches.
However, the Ice Dogs were able to maintain intensity throughout the game.
Maxime Collette added to his league lead in goals with two more.
He now has 6 goals and 2 assists in the last 3 games.
Brady Frattinger added a single while Ondrej Bardos recorded 2 assists.
Cole Johnston suffered his first loss with Dryden GM but did make 35 saves.
Kam River has now won 16 straight games.
In Thunder Bay, the Red Lake Miners held off a late North Stars attack to pick up a wild 8-6 victory.
Red Lake was up 7-3 in the third period when Thunder Bay finally got things going.
However, a R.J. Dickie empty net goal iced the game.
Leading the way for the Miners was Ryan Hunter with 3 goals and an assist.
Ryan Howe, Jordan Baranesky, Lucas Piekarczyk, and Elliot Parker added singles.
Kiev Kineshanko stopped 30 shots for the win.
The Miners now move 3 points up on Dryden GM for second place.
Elsewhere in the SIJHL, Fort Frances outlasted Wisconsin 3-2.
