There are 33 new cases of COVID-19 in the Northwestern Health Unit.
15 are in the Fort Frances Health Hub, six in Dryden, four in the Kenora area, three in the Sioux Lookout region, two each in Red Lake and Emo and one in Rainy River.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon says case numbers only gives a partial picture of the COVID-19 situation in the region.
“It’s very uncommon that only one statistic is important,” says Dr. Young Hoon. “Usually we look at all the statistics to get a sense of what is occurring. Particularly now when know we don’t have access to case numbers. So at this point, I would still be looking at the trends in the case numbers to see what direction they are going into.”
The positivity rate in the region is 16.9 percent, which is down from last week, and there are currently three hospitalizations due to COVID-19.
Overall, the Northwestern Health Unit has 201 active cases in the region.
