It’s back to school for students across the region today. (Monday)
In-class learning resumes after a brief COVID-19 break.
Dr. Kit Young Hoon is the Medical Officer of Health for the Northwestern Health Unit.
She says, “Generally I think parents should continue to speak to their child about the importance of following public health advise while at schools. Particularly important is the masking while indoors. So, parents should be supplying their child with the appropriate type of mask and showing the child how to wear it, helping them practice using it and encouraging them to use it once their indoors.”
Dr. Young adds proper hand hygiene is also essential to keep kids safe.
The Heath Unit is fully supporting the reopening of schools.
Additional personal protection equipment has started to arrive at many schools, as well as more rapid tests.
Roads are good to go, and there are no reported bus cancellations.
Things you’ll need to know for back to school today:
-Kindergarten students are required to wear masks
-Testing & isolation requirements have been updated
-Two rapid antigen tests per student will be going home with kids
-Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests will be given to students/staff who develop symptoms while at school
-Reporting cases won’t be known until approximately 30 per cent of staff and students are absent
