The federal government says it still wants to see the details of Quebec’s proposed tax on the unvaccinated.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the government has taken its own steps to get as many people vaccinated as possible.
“We have been clear at the federal level about how important it is to get vaccinated,” states Trudeau.
“We brought in very strong measures to ensure that travelers across the country need to be fully vaccinated, people coming into the country need to be fully vaccinated, the federal public service needs to be fully vaccinated.”
Trudeau says the details of Quebec’s proposed tax are important to make sure it complies with the Canada Health Act.
“Like people across the country, we’ve received that proposal with interest by the Quebec government, but there are a lot more details that we have to hear on how this would work before I can comment on it.”
Trudeau points out that vaccine mandates do work and that’s one way they are encouraging more people to get immunized against COVID-19.
