Ontario’s Liberal leader is calling for more protection for workers and children in child care centres.
Steven Del Duca says kids are at risk unless safety measures are taken.
“I am calling on Doug Ford today to realize that it was a grievous mistake on his part to stop the reporting of positive cases (of COVID-19) in both daycares and schools and to reverse that decision immediately,” says Del Duca.
Del Duca also wants personal protective equipment available to staff and children.
“This is a moment in time where we can’t squander the opportunity, where Doug Ford can’t squander the opportunity to do the right thing and to deliver on the investments and make the effort.”
While schools are closed under new public health restrictions that kick in today (Wednesday), child centres can still operate and many are located in schools.
Del Duca says child care centres face the same risks as schools.
Some parents online Tuesday during a media briefing with Del Duca noted they aren’t sending their children to child care because of the change in reporting requirements.
